At the Seaside

Marazion and the coast nearby boasts some of the most spectacular and cleanest beaches in England.

No matter your age, a visit to the beach is a must for your Cornish holiday. Whether it’s for a cautious paddle or adventurous dip, for rock-pooling or making sandcastles, perhaps sitting back on a deck chair with a cuppa or enjoying the waves kite-boarding, Marazion beach has lots to occupy you. Relax with the stunning view as the ever changing tides lap the magical Island of St Michael’s Mount whilst sail boats and fishermen pass by.

Don’t forget the beaches in Cornwall appear and disappear according to the state of the tide. Tide times for high and low water can be found at the bottom of this page. Be careful not to get cut off by rising tides, always supervise children and do not use inflatables in offshore winds.

These are just a few of the activities you can enjoy at Marazion:

SUP

A relatively new pastime Stand Up Paddleboarding is great fun and a super way of getting on the water. Ocean High SUP instructors will teach you how to balance and escort you across the bay, even around St Michael’s Mount. Great for balance and even yoga afloat too! Contact Lawrence at Ocean High Boarding , Angus of The Hoxton Special or Tracey of GoSUP

Kite Surfing

The ultimate speed thrill on water. Kite surfing on Mounts Bay from Marazion beach is as spectacular to watch as it is to enjoy. Book your instructor from Ocean High Boarding

Sea Fishing

Beach fishing from Marazion can be surprisingly productive with bass, plaice and mackerel caught from various marks. Lugworm bait can be dug at low tide and then the tide fished in.

Mounts Bay Boat Trips offer fishing and wildlife trips from Penzance on the Silver Tide with Jowan Allen, one of the Mount Boatmen. book on line or call Jowan on 07814 249810

Deep sea and mackerel fishing trips also run from Penzance.. www.cornwallboattrips.co.uk/boat-trips-penzance-cornwall/content/fishing-trips

Sailing

We can arrange temporary membership of Mounts Bay Sailing Club for dinghy sailors, who can then benefit from dinghy parking in the compound beside the beach slipway and join the racing during the season on Tuesday & Friday evenings or Sunday mornings. www.mbsc.org.uk

If the weather & tides are right your host Paul might invite you to crew his 24 foot classic Gaff yacht ‘Lily’ to sail around the Mount, perhaps spot a dolphin or two and hopefully catch some mackerel for breakfast.

Swimming

RNLI Lifeguards patrol the safe sandy beach bathing area in front of the Mount, providing shallow sheltered waters to enjoy as an adult or as a child. If you are more experienced there are organised events where you can swim around the Mount. If cold water swimming is your thing, check out the aptly named Penzance & Marazion Bluetits chill water swimming group, who meet regularly all year round on Marazion beach or in Penzance according to the tide and sea state.

Sea Safari

Get afloat by sail or under power from Penzance Harbour to explore Mounts Bay and seek out dolphins, basking sharks, whales, sun fish, seals, gannets, skuas, shearwaters and other amazing coastal wildlife on a marine safari with Marine Discovery Penzance.

Gig Rowing

Marazion boasts a very successful and active Gig Rowing team. Come and watch them train – or get in touch to try your hand at rowing. www.mountsbaygigclub.org/tag/marazion
